Why do most guys make a BIG deal over dark-skin vs. light-skin women and/or vice versa? ~~ A sista of color

I'm sure light skin sisters have heard; “you are so bogee” let alone are stereotyped with being stuck up, cocky and use their color to get by.

I'm sure dark skin sisters have heard; “oh you're pretty for a dark skin girl” let alone are stereotyped with being mean or having a very bad attitude.

Who started this mess any darn way, cause we sure in hell didn't if you know like I know...but just in case you missed something....
SLAVERY” is where it started....

We were divided by our skin color: Light was accepted more and easier on the eyes so it was said, and light worked in closer connection with the masta' and his people. Dark was not obviously accepted, so dark was placed out in the field away from mostly everyone.

At some point it trickled down into families where it was frowned upon if a man bought home a girl/woman darker than a brown paper bag. Oh yes indeedy! Ask that older generation who can tell you all about it 'n' more. The best stories no matter what topic, comes from our elders if you will...You just have to be willing to sit and listen for a few hours.... ;-D

Nevertheless, next it was good ol'e “Bleaching Cream”. Just about every bathroom you looked in being nosy, there was a jar owned by a dark skin girl and/or woman trying to lighten her skin tone to be accepted by any and everyone that frowned against her skin color. The entertainment world didn't make it any better and we all know it. Has it gotten better? I will let you all be the judge of that, but if you're asking me does it still exist? Ooooh you bet your bottom dollar it sure in the heck does..... “GUARANTEED”!!!

Whatever shade of brown our men or whomever for that matter they may like or even be in love with...."LOVE the skin YOU'RE in NO matter what ladies". Just make sure to speak with our little ladies early on...its all about loving us first and being confident in WHO WE ARE as an individual.

Ignorance has NO name and comes in EVERY SHADE of color from the purest white to the black shiny coated blue.

We all need to STOP with the light vs dark thing.

When it was said that “Black is Beautiful”, it didn't mean only the lighter version of black....

NO matter what shade you are; its ALL BEAUTIFUL, so remember that....

  2. What we don't realize is the entertainment world plays a huge part in the thoughts of many men of today's about dark skinned women or skin complexion and hair for that matter.

  3. Growing up we saw lots of beautiful dark skinned women on television back in the day. My opinion is; entertainment call themselves ending the hatred amongst making a difference with skin color, but really they are the ones instigating it even more. I should know. I work in the field.

  4. In the words of Wade Nobles, "Power is the ability to define reality and have others believe that your definition is real." What a lot of our people are afraid to say out loud is WHO is operating the machine (media, politics, education, etc) that conditions how we see ourselves and each other. There's no use to discussing solutions, when folks don't want to acknowledge WHO is the problem in the first place, and WHY we allow them to continue to be out problem.

  5. Heyyyy what can I say? Just joking. My theory about our people (black people) is that the salve mentality is in the DNA. Many of those ignorant thought processes are stuck. Remember that the lighter complexion negroes, many were the master's children and thus receiving special treatment. Also Many white people back then were scared of darker skinned negroes, somehow believing the light complesion ones were milder and didn't look as intimidating.

When you sit back and look at the diversity in skin color of black people you realize how absolutely beautiful it is. Fair, bronze, yellow, caramel, chocolate, ebony. BEAUTIFUL! Also it's not the color of your skin but the content of your character as Dr. King taught us.

I hate how hollywood takes every black star and lightens them up, they should refuse to misrepresent the true color of their skin, this further supports this issue.

  6. You all remember Spike Lee's "Skool Dayz" right? You all know the intent was to bring light to colorism among our own if you will, however, I'm sure you all were able to recognize the light skin characters looked better then many of the dark skin characters. Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you all who have eyes let them see and you sure saw...now didn't you?
He did a very good job in allowing us to see what goes on in today's world rather utilizing the division between black sororities etc, etc. Like another post stated to this day sororities are STILL broken up by skin color and/or looks. If you join that sorority, what is it saying about you as an individual? Just asking......sheeeesh....When does all this madness end?????

  7. All it is is "Self Hatred". Buying into the lies of White culture perpetrated by the media venues of television, magazines & movies through the years. Yea, Willie Lynch in full action with an agenda. And we as Black people keep falling in the hole!

Be all that you can be, you are a child created by the living God. Stop listening and wasting your time listening to Bozo's that don't have your best interest at heart nor know who they are and are trying to pull you down into the pit right with them. Lies, lies and more lies!!! Stop believing and following boneheads! Think for yourself, if you don't know the answers ask someone who does. You'll know them by their fruit. Meaning a quiet lifestyle, their productive, focused and don't have alot of drama in their lives...WAKE THE HELL UP!!!!!!!!!!

  8. I think that skin color is compared in da food group...=). Well, for starters I'm Cherokee and my bukie is dark chocolate. I love his black complexion, that's one of da reasons that attracted me to hi...m. We fell in love wit each others hearts. I know color shouldn't matter cause we all came from da same God BUT for me I don't like vanilla. Its not my cup of tea.....lolz. I think it depends on da person and their taste. I think da darker da berry da sweeter da juice ! ! ! I know I love him more than life itself. God put us together and personally I don't care what da otha races think about us cause we are happy. I only care about what God thinks. It feels like God reached inside my chest removed my heart and made my bukie from all of my hearts desire. We have been together for a long time and I plan on spending eternity with him....and loving every minute of it.......8-D.

  9. I don't get into that light skin dark skin mess, I'm free, I love all my black people no matter what color your skin is. Black is black and all people strugle and have problems and just because your light or dark doesn't mean life it going to be easy for you. We all go thru storms in life and God put us here to help one anther not seperate and divide. The Devil is the real enemy there is really only one race an that's the human race. We are all brothers and sisters. Therefore, I'm asking everyone to free your mind and recognise the real enemy. Start with the man in the mirror and like Micheal Jackson said if you want to make the world a better place take a look at yourself and make that change. I love me because God loves me, and I love you because thats what God wnant us to do love one another not hate one anohter over something so stupid. Wake UP and smell the spiritual coffe. Peace on the inner man.
