.....are they just looking to pull the race card? Why is it the police target a car full of black men...depending on how they are dressed or the make of the car? I dont know but I grew up knowing that usually meant trouble..in other words is there a reason for the profile? ~~ Sean Coley
Racial profiling has been happening in this country since it began. It was not created just when a car load of African American men were driving down the street. It started the minute that Americo Vespucci landed on this shore and Christopher Columbus landed thousands of miles south of this countries shores.
ReplyDeleteIn the modern world, racial profiling has been a necessity of sorts in order to keep crime from spreading. And where does the crime come from...those neighborhoods where there is poverty. It has been this way for a very long time. The unfortunate aspect about it is that not all people who live in poverty are criminals. There are many who are just really good people and those are the ones who suffer because of the criminal aspect in their neighborhoods.
Racial profiling has been committed by African-Americans, American Indians, Mexican-Americans, Irish-Americans, just to name a few. Injustices are committed by MANY different races, not just the Caucasian people. Ignorance is widespread regardless of race.
Point in fact, a friend of mine was moving back to Decatur, GA from Los Angeles, CA. She is a very educated African-American woman. On her way back to her hometown, she had to stop for gas, water and other items at a gas station in Alabama. While inside the gas station, 3 white men entered and went to pick up some beer. She was standing in line, next to be checked out, when these 3 men started calling her a "nigglit" and cut right in front of her to the counter. She said nothing. Myself, I was ready to do damage!!! THAT kind of behavior is unnecessary and incredibly rude. So I was ready to open my mouth, when she scooted right next to me and told me into my ear to say NOTHING. She knew that I didn't go for that kind of crap. I never have.
I am German, French, Sicilian and Northern Tribe Cherokee - Bear Clan. But my skin is as white as it comes and I have blond hair and blue eyes. Don't let my appearance fool you because the native blood runs deep in my veins. And I grew up in the projects in Los Angeles.
It doesn't mean racial profiling is right, but sometimes we have to put up with certain things in order to be safe where we live.
Seriously...I think peeps hide too much behind the race card when they are well and truly screwing up...take that bart cop who just got hooked up on manslaughter charges...for what I beleive was an honest mistake...a fatal one yes...but honest. Im not blaming this on the victim but questions no-one really wants to answer come to mind..why did the victim resist arrest...no-one wants to take responsibility for the other side of the coin. Too many times I see on the news upset parents crying injustice over the killing of thier children by police...and still these questions come to mind...why were they out so late..why did they resist arrest...why did they pull a weapon..Police for the most part dont manufacture problems...I know my mother was a dispatcher for the CHP for 30 years..they dont go looking for trouble it always finds them. Im not saying there arent bad pennies but comon...
ReplyDeleteSome might say there is a fine line or none at all between profiling and stereotyping..both are based on in large part by observed behaviour..In most cases it does not by and large represent the behaviour of a race as a whole. The difference here though is called probable cause. Profiling in my opinion is a very valuable tool. Im half black and half white...and I grew up in the Shaw..so i have seen the profiles in action.
ReplyDeleteMostly Black males are affected by racial profiling. That is what I saw growing up in Philly. I think its wrong. Why do people always assume that black guys are up to no good? My brother was stop once walking to my grand mom house with he over night bag and the cops stoped him. They thought he had drugs. My brother was alway a good kid he never messed with drugs. But he was still profiled.
ReplyDeleteliving in Cleveland and in the hood of Cleveland, we seen a lot of police officer harassing kids young black men on a regular only thing i think it taught not to be gullible and the world is still prejudice and i am the best defensive driver in Ohio always looking for the po po
